Boot Cut Recording is an independent live music recording business established by sound enthusiast George Kerr. Initially set up as a portable studio to record music made at various rural and metropolitan locations, the business has now grown to include the live recording, mixing and rendering of shows played across live music venues and houses wherever feasible.

The business is born from Melbourne’s live music scene and supports local independent music. There are unique and powerful performances played out in Melbourne’s distinctive live spaces. These spaces have an aural history that gradually recede into forgotteness as new bands move in on occupied territory, venues change ownership, and the city’s soundscape takes on a new aesthetic.

Boot Cut Recordings’ aim is to collaborate with independent musicians; musicians that want to explore their live sound or who maybe cannot afford to cover prohibitive studio recording costs. The business uses a 8-track setup, mixed live, and rendered to MP3 immediately after the gig. BCR believes musicians romance audiences and build a relationship from this, and that the raw live sound is integral to this. This is why BCR exists.

Boot Cut Recording can also be hired for a location recording of bands. Production and sound engineering work, such as mixing and mastering, of the recordings can be undertaken for an additional fee.

Happy lissening,

George
